Company tax return available for testing

Company tax return is now available for testing by software developers. In addition, several SBR artefacts have been released or updated, to provide further clarification following feedback from software developers or to rectify defects identified during testing:

  • ATO - Company tax return (CTR) Conformance suite and minor amendments to four MIGs
  • SBR Web Services Implementation (WIG) guide
  • Sample instance documents consolidated into test Conformance suites.

ATO - Company tax return (and associated schedules)

Conformance Suite

The Schematron rules and Conformance suite for the Company tax return have been released.

If you wish to commence testing or obtain Conformance testing suites for SBR reports please contact the SBR service desk at sbrservicedesk@ato.gov.au or call 1 300 488 231 between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm AEDT, Monday to Friday.

Message Implementation Guide (MIG)

Following further internal testing, the following MIGs relating to the Company tax return (and associated schedules) have also been updated to ensure alignment with SBR Reporting Taxonomies. This relates specifically to:

Developer impacts: The change will benefit software developers by providing implementation information that aligns with the taxonomy.

In-situ addition of enumeration values to two data elements

Additional enumeration values were required for the following data elements:

  • dtyp.sbr.02.00:sbrPersonNameUsageItemType – addition of 'DeclarationSignatory'
  • dtyp.sbr.02.04:sbrResearchDevelopmentGroupItemType – addition of 'G' and 'B'

The additional enumeration value for sbrPersonNameUsageItemType is required to support lodgment of the ATO’s Company tax return (CTR) and Interposed entity election (IEE). If you have commenced developing products using either of these forms you will need to update the data type file to ensure you have the most up to date file.

PersonNameUsageItemType is also used by the Fringe benefits tax return (FBT), however there is only one acceptable enumeration for sbrPersonNameUsageItemType within the FBT report and that enumeration is already supported by the taxonomy. If you have commenced developing your products to support FBT you are not required to update the data type file.

Two further enumeration values have been added to the sbrResearchDevelopmentGroupItemType element to provide the values intended for this element (these are described in the MIG). This element is only used by the CTR. If you have commenced developing products for the CTR you will need to update the data type file to ensure you have the most up to date file.

These changes have been actioned through an in-situ approach to prevent the need for the definitional taxonomy and CTR and IEE reporting taxonomies to be re-released (which would impose consequential changes to versions and namespaces).

In order to allow the user to distinguish between the originally published 2010.02.10 taxonomy release and the reloaded discoverable taxonomy set (containing the in-situ change) when viewing through the collaboration environment, the reloaded discoverable taxonomy set will be designated 2010.02.10a.

Developer impacts: If you have commenced developing products for the CTR you will need to update the data type file to ensure you have the most up to date file.

Web Services Implementation Guide (WIG)

Following feedback from software developers the WIG has been re-released. Please note the updates provide additional clarification on implementation issues as opposed to introducing technical change. The full list of changes is available in the version control box of the document.

Developer impacts: There should be no negative impact on developers as the re-release adds clarification following software developer feedback and rectifies two known defects.
Sample instance documents consolidated into test Conformance suites.

Previously taxonomy sample instances have been available in machine readable format through the http://sbr.gov.au/taxonomy/ site and bundled with the downloadable discoverable taxonomy set file from the SBR collaboration environment. In addition, a second, different set of sample instances are included with conformance suites.

In order to establish a single source for all sample instances within the SBR Program, sample instances have been removed from the taxonomy publishing structures of the collaboration environment and the http://sbr.gov.au/taxonomy/ site. This will help maintain the quality and integrity of taxonomy sample instances.

Taxonomy sample instances will only be available through SBR conformance suites.

If you wish to obtain Conformance testing suites for SBR reports please contact the SBR service desk at sbrservicedesk@ato.gov.au or call 1 300 488 231 between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm AEDT, Monday to Friday.

Developer impacts: The change will benefit software developers by providing sample instances of improved quality (improving data integrity, reducing duplication, and better aligning versions of taxonomy files and sample instances).
