Pilots and trials

The SBR Program will undertake a number of pilots and trials prior to the formal release of its full range of facilities in 2010.  As well as pilots and trials,  the SBR Teams will also be using "user based testing" techniques involving simulation of the user experiences for many of the forms in scope from as early as June 2008, through to September 2009.  These user experience simulations will provide guidance to the agencies involved,  as well as software developers on the design  of the overall system.  It will also be a key method for determining the ongoing demand for such products, as well as education and communication programs that will support the implementation of SBR.

The major pilots and trials are:

  • March 2008: First release of the SBR Reporting Taxonomy (Taxonomy Cycle 1). This will provide access to the first XBRL Financial Reporting Taxonomy - a set of harmonised reporting terms and definitions.  This will be made available on this web-site in early April,  and there will be workshops held with software developers and members of the accounting profession to review and seek feedback on the Taxonomy.
  • June 2008: Part 1 of the second release of the SBR Reporting Taxonomy (Taxonomy Cycle 2.1).  This release will support the tax file number (TFN) declaration pilot.
  • September 2008: Part 2 of the second release of the SBR Reporting Taxonomy (Taxonomy Cycle 2.2).  This updated and expanded version of the Taxonomy will cover all the reporting forms in scope of SBR, have a higher degree of harmonisation of definitions across the participating agencies, and will be the version used for the first pilot (see Tax File Number Declaration Pilot below).
  • January 2009: Tax File Number Declaration Pilot: This will be a limited release of all the SBR capability available by this date. It will illustrate the business value of SBR, simulating the final environment with the assistance of a limited number of businesses and software developers.  SBR support for the reporting of the TFN form in full production mode will occur by June 2009.
  • September 2009 to January 2010: Proof of Concept (Agency) Releases: During this period the software developers will be able to test and pilot at least one form per participating agency, from creation of reports to transmission to the relevant agency and receipt confirmation.  This will prove that the system works for businesses, software vendors and all participating government agencies.
  • March 2009: Third release of the SBR Reporting Taxonomy (Taxonomy Cycle 3) - This version of the reporting taxonomy will incorporate over 12 months of harmonisation of reporting definitions.  This will be the version of the reporting taxonomy that will enable the report creation of all forms in scope of SBR and software developers that plan to develop and release products that support SBR in 2010 will use this version of the Taxonomy.
