How to view and navigate the TFN declaration taxonomy
In order to view the XBRL codes and files, a taxonomy viewer will be required. A selection of XBRL viewers and technical information is available from XBRL Australia and other websites.
The need for, and selection of, XBRL tools is a matter for you to determine. The Commonwealth does not recommend, endorse or prefer any XBRL tool or product for use in relation to SBR, either to its agencies, to industry or other interested parties.
If you do not already have access to, and do not wish to access a taxonomy viewer, you can view the schema document using WordPad.
After downloading and installing the required XBRL taxonomy viewing software, consult the instructions packaged with the software. This is usually available from the help drop down menu.
Most software will have a set of menu items that enable basic file access functions like opening, editing, and saving the taxonomy. To open a taxonomy file, choose the file-open menu option or press the button on the toolbar. The hierarchical structure of a taxonomy file is normally presented in a relationship tree view. By expanding and drilling into a concept, low level information can then be explored and discovered. Depending on the viewing tool that was downloaded, some tools may validate the taxonomy files before display and other tools will simply load and display the taxonomy.
Cycle 2.1 TFN declaration taxonomy

PLEASE NOTE:
The Australian Tax Office identified the need to include an additional data element within this version of the taxonomy . As such, SBR has now replaced the "Family Tax Benefit claimed" indicator with "Senior Australians Tax Offset Claimed" data element to ensure completeness in line with the federal government budget announcement.
Once downloaded, unzip the file and save it to your computer. In the root folder you will find a high level directory within which is a readme.txt file that provides navigation instructions to assist in understanding how files are organised in this TFN declaration taxonomy. The readme.txt file shows the relationship between all files in the taxonomy, as well as their meaning and purpose.
