Government
Standard Business Reporting (SBR) is an Australian Government initiative to reduce the regulatory reporting burden for business and is a key COAG initiative under the National Partnership Agreement to Deliver a Seamless National Economy.
Treasury is the lead agency in the implementation of SBR. Other participating agencies are the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Bureau of Statistics and all State and Territory Government revenue offices.
SBR has built a secure electronic channel to allow businesses to report to government agencies directly from their business software packages; it has set the data standards for defining the information to be sent; and it has defined the structure of the electronic messages.
The SBR infrastructure is in place and centrally funded – establishment costs for agencies are reduced to those associated with agency specific taxonomy development, agency connection to the shared infrastructure and integration with ‘back-end’ agency systems.
